Venue - Kumamoto
Kumamoto City is located in the center of Kyushu Island. It has a long history and is known as "City of Forests" since it is blessed with an abundance of nature. When seeing the sites of Japan, Kumamoto's classic Japanese style garden known as Suizenji Park, the nearly 400-year old Kumamoto Castle, the Higo Zogan design and traditional folk handcrafts like Shohdai-yaki pottery will surely fascinate you. Moreover, Kumamoto City will leave you feeling refreshed thanks to the crystal clear water, clean air and delicious foods that its plentiful nature provides.
Kumamoto Castle
Built by the warrior, Kiyomasa Kato, Kumamoto Castle ranks as one of the three most famous castles in Japan, along with Osaka Castle and Nagoya Castle. It features spectacular, outward curving stone walls called “mushagaeshi” that repelled invaders. The Castle’s dark and majestic towers reflect Kato’s authority. Many castle buildings were destroyed by fire during the Seinan Civil War of 1877 but the Main Tower was rebuilt in 1960 and now houses a collection of weapons, armor and furniture of the Edo Era, as well as items tracing Kumamoto’s history that visitors are free to browse.
Aso Volcano
You must not forget to visit Aso volcano, one of the most uniquely accessible active volcanoes in the world. You can climb up to the edge of the volcanic crater, look down inside and enjoy magnificent scenery of the Caldera (large crater sunk by a big eruption) which measures 25km by 18km. Many people from all over the world enjoy visiting the Aso area all year-round.
Climate
The average temperature in Kumamoto during the period of the Congress will be comfortable at around 14°C-24°C.
